Expect the day to center on Forest trek and Mountain streams. Travel to the park gate on the western slopes. Trek through dense montane forest with towering trees, thick undergrowth, and mountain streams. The forest is home to elephants, buffalo, and Colobus monkeys though sightings depend on luck. Reach Met Station (Meteorological Station) camp in a forest clearing.

Day 2 is built around Vertical Bog and Afro-alpine moorland. Trek through the famous 'Vertical Bog' — a challenging section of waterlogged moorland that tests your balance and waterproof gear. Despite its difficulty, the Vertical Bog is surrounded by striking scenery with giant heathers and the dramatic twin peaks of Mount Kenya towering above. Travel onward across Afro-alpine moorland to Mackinder's Camp beneath the peaks.

The focus today is Hausberg Tarn and Lewis Glacier views. Essential acclimatization day. Discover around Mackinder's Camp with hikes to the Hausberg Tarn — a beautiful alpine lake in a volcanic crater. Stop at the Austrian Hut area for close views of the Lewis Glacier and the dramatic rock faces of Batian and Nelion peaks. Rest and hydrate for summit night.
